Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew, also known as Wat Lan Kuad which means the Temple of a Million Bottles, located in Sisaket province (Northeast of Thailand).

The premises of the temple and the structure inside, including ordination hall, pavilion, belfry, parsonage and even the toilet was built from the million of colorful bottle in various sizes which donated by the local people.

Not only the bottle, the bottle caps are also use as a mosaic which shown the history of the Buddha.

Will Bangkok be sinking?

A lot of articles said that Bangkok will be drown in the next few years from two major reasons, the land collapse and the high level of seawater caused from melted polar ice.

The UN said that in coming 10-15 years the seawater will be rising 1-1.5 meters. Referring to the map of Royal Thai Survey shows that the land of Bangkok and Bangkok District collapsing every year. Bangkapi is the most collapsed area which has been downed around 100 centimeter.

Where to get a Wood Craving in Bangkok?

Thai Woodstreet is the largest center in Thailand for wooden crafted furniture and wood carving products. It's located on Soi Pracha-Narumid and Soi Sawaisuwan, Bang-Sue, Bangkok.

This is the well known place among of Thai people and foreigners as the center of major supplier and distributor of Thai wooded crafted products. Many people come to Thai Woodstreet to buy the wooden products and the prices are from lower to higher depend on the design and quality.

The craftsman was originally from Chinese people who emigrated to Thailand. They brought their skill in craving with their career and pass the knowledge to Thai people. So the wood products here are unique and excellent.

On both sides of the street, there are more than 400 shops and the products are from unfurnished wood, furniture from wood which make by order and ready-made and home decorations.

How to get there?

The best way to go to Thai Woodstreet is a public bus as it's a one way road, there's no car park available.

This restaurant is a part of Population And Community Development Association (PDA) which founded by Mr Meechai Weerawaitaya and also he is the owner of this restaurant. He propose to promote Thai Food to be well known among the foreigners and a part of incomes used to support his social program PDA.

The PDA was established since 1974 by Mr. Meechai foresee that the number of Thai children are over exaggerate which can be the cause of problem of popularity and social. For this result, he would like to adjust the problem by control the birth.

"Cabbages & Condoms" is one of his motivation. He has an idea that condoms are the best way for birth control. It's easy to find and cheap like cabbages which also cheap and sell in any market. So these are the reason of the name "Cabbages & Condoms".

Inside the restaurant also decorated by condom!!

This restaurant is very famous for the foreigners not only the social benefit but the food taste so good and the quality compare to 5 stars hotel.

The unique of this restaurant is the menu called "Condom Mix". Its name may strange you but you'll probably understand when you've order it. They use of Shanghai noodle mix with chicken, shrimp and cabbages season with Thai taste, sour, spicy, sweet and salty together.

About Areas In Bangkok

I know that some of you are already know about Bangkok already. However, for the new comers, this might help you getting know of Bangkok a little better for each of it's own "areas".

I will begin with the "popular" area at first.

Sukhumvit

Actually, some foreigners understand that Sukhumvit is the name of area in Bangkok. In fact, it is the name of one of the Thailand National Route No.3 But when you mentioned the name "Sukhumvit" Most of people will think of one of the Major Commercial streets in Thailand.

The Street is divided into 2 sides. The odd numbers alleys (called "Soi" in Thai language) is the on the out bound lanes. The even number "Soi" located on the opposite side.

There are areas, favourable to each nation expats, for example, Japanese expats preferred to live around Sukhumvit 21 (Soi Asok) while westerner residential areas will be in Soi 1 or Soi 63.

Sukhumvit has many interesting places there are combinations of business, Commercial and pleasure on this road. Big office buildings, shopping mall, even the night life can be found on this road and it's small and big Branch of "Soi". One thing you will never find here is the "Traditional" way of life in Thailand. Looking elsewhere if you want a quiet place.

Silom

This old street is also known is "Wall Street of Thailand". A lot of major companies has their offices in this area. It is also known for the night life in Bangkok. A place with a lot of different between day and night. Some said this borough of Bangkok never sleeps. (I guess they never saw it on weekend afternoon or between 6.00-7.00 am, :D)

The famous (or Notorious) hot spot here should be no other place but Patpong Night Bazaar and night club rows. Originally designed as the Local Commercial center, Patpong face has changed when Vietnam War broke out. Night clubs broom up and painted the area for GI's R&R during the war, has made quite a name for the street itself and Thailand.

You can find many shops during the daytime too, coffee shops with wi-fi internet access, restaurants with international food, Local and international food vendors. During weekdays, the street will be crowded with blue collars, office workers and messengers with motorbikes and traffic jam.

Sathorn

This area is one of the 50 district of Bangkok. Sathorn is named for the canal that cut through the district. The canal is once use for commercial transportation. afterward, the Sathorn road was built on both sides of canal and became the main road of the district.

The road itself is also separate Sathorn district from Bang Rak District. The northern side of the road, build on north side of the cannal called Sathorn Nua (North Sathorn), is belong to Bang Rak districk, while the Southern lane of the road belongs to Sathorn District.

Sathorn is a place suitable for residential area as it is very close to Silom and next to Chao Phraya River. The river view makes this district become famous for the river view residences.

Nine Lucky Temple in Bangkok

I’d like to suggest the travelers to visit 9 famous temples in Bangkok to bring them good luck for the life.

All of nine sacred temple situated around the main road of Bangkok so it does not hard to find them.

First place is Wat Kanlayanamit means Bon Voyage or have a safe trip. You can get there by take the express boat to Rajinee Pier and crossing the river to reach the temple.

The second temple is Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn (means to be a prosperous life) this temple was built at the end of Ayuttaya period and there are the main chedi which decorated in Khmer style.

The next temple is Wat Rakhang, the word of "Rakhang" is a bell in Thai so they believe that they will become more popular and likable.

Three of them are located in the same river bank so the fourth destination we have to take a ferry (only 3 Baht) to crossing from Tha Rakhang to Tha Chang.

After we’re reached Tha Chang we can walk to Wat Phra Kaew (Wealth and prosperity) the icon of Bangkok. To enter to the temple the visitors should be in polite and properly clothes in order to respect the place. There are many of foreigners come here to take a picture because the places are so magnificent and be attractive.

The next temple is Wat Pho or The Temple of Reclining Buddha (To have a secure and peaceful life). This is the largest and oldest temple in Bangkok, this temple is generally famous for the huge reclining Buddha statue and also if you want to experience traditional Thai massage this is the school and centre of Thai massage.

Then we’re going to the next temple, that is Wat Suthat (To be a good vision) where the one of six temples of the first grade in Thailand. At the front of temple you will see the giant red swing in Thai called Sao Ching Cha, it is the symbol of Bangkok.

We’re then moving to Chao Phor Seua Shrine located on Tanao Road (To offers more power and stature) you’ll probably feel different from previous temple because this place is designed in the Chinese style of gold and red color.

The eighth destination is Luk Muang Shrine (City Pillar Shrine) in order to discard bad luck and lengthen your life with good fortune. Sao Lak Muang or the city foundation pillar was raised on 1782 when King Rama I established Bangkok as the capital of Thailand.

Now we’re reached the final destination, that is Wat Chanasongkhram (To victory over difficult obstacles).

In fact walking along Khaosarn Road, the temple would appear as another typical temple in Thailand without Chedi or Chofas, it is probably the history dated back to the era of King Rama I that makes this temple important.

Thai Boxing (Muay Thai)

The one well known of sport and game in Thailand is thai boxing. Many people call it in thai as "Muay Thai", which can uses kicks, knee, elbows and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in western boxing. Before each Muay Thai bout, they need to do one thing. That is Wai Kru (respects to the teacher) also known as Ram Muay (boxing dance). It is an important part of any evening watching Thai Boxing.

Getting around Bangkok

Bangkok is same as others major cities, the traffic get bad in rush hours. You may get stuck in the traffic an hour plus, else 2-3 hours is usual happen. It is easy to caught up in gridlock traffic any time and waste valuable time.

Taking the Metro or Skytrain will be better!!

The Subway (BTS) and Metro (MRT) rail systems connect the main business area, shopping entertainment of Bangkok.

BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) The train run daily from 6.00 am to 12.00 pm and arrives every 3-6 minutes. There are three routes “ Sukhumvit Line “Silom Line” and "Taksin Line".

Sukhumvit line : Between National Stadium to Saphan Taksin
Silom line : Between Mo Chit to On Nut
Taksin line : Recently opened in May 2009 from Saphan Taksin Station to Taksin Road

It intersects with MRT at Asoke and Sala Daeng Stations. Fares start at 15 to 40 Baht per journey.

MRT (Mass Rapid Transit System) The train run daily from 6.00 am to 12.00 pm and arrives every 4 minutes during the peak hours and less than 10 minutes during the off-peak hours.

Start from Bangkok Railway Station, Hua Lamphong along Rama 4 road, turns to Ratchadaphisek Road, passing Jatujak Market (weekend market), and finally ends at Bang Sue Railway Station.

It intersects with BTS Skytrain at Sukhumvit and Silom Stations. Fares start at 15 Baht. A single journey ticket from one end to the other costs 39 baht (an estimated 25 minutes)

How to create your own tour?
If you wish to create your own tour, I would recommend you to do for half day or full day for each tour.
Choose 1-2 places you would like to visit. You also need to rent a car with driver.

How much you will pay for each trip?

The car rent for Bangkok only is around 2,500-3,000 baht per day. If you take only half day tour, you can negotiate with the car owner to get the best price.
Admission ticket, some place that you have to pay for that. There will be the information on entry.

Shopping in Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the famous place for a shopping lover. There are many shopping mall, department store, emporium etc. BUT you can find this at your home, isn't it?

So what's the best place to go and shop in Bangkok?

I'd suggest Jatujak Market also know as JJ Market, open only on weekend. There are more than 8,000 shop coverage around 27 acre.

This can be say that it is one of the largest weekend market. You can buy everything from here and the prices are reasonable (compare to the tourist shop).

There are many zones of the products which can be divided by dress & clothes, furniture, pets, book, antique, trees, food & drink and secondhand goods.

Not only the numerous shop make Jatujak interesting, the street performances are very attractive. A lot of people even a little child showing their ability in performance like dancing, singing, playing music, even magic!!

How to get there?

The best and fastest way is BTS at Mo Chit station or MRT at Jatujak Station or Kamphangphet Station. If you want to try a public bus, you can easily get a lot of buses from Victory Monument. If you are not sure, you can call 184 for the bus information.

One Day Trip along the Chao Phraya River

If you have a few days trip in Bangkok and you don't know where to go, I'd suggest you to take a one day trip by boat.

You can get the ticket at Saphan Takin pier everyday from 9.30 to 15.00. It costs 150 Baht per ticket. You can take the boat in every 30 minutes from each pier, so you have time roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour as you want.

The place you must to visit is Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha Temple) which you can stop at Tha Tien pier.

Another place you must not miss is Wat Phra Kaew (The Emerald Buddha Temple), highlight of Bankok. You can stop at Maharaja Pier (only travel boat will stop at this pier) and take a few walk to Wat Phra Kaew.

Don't forget to wear a courteous dress, long pants and shirt for Men and long skirt for women. Anyway if you are not aware about this, there's a dress for you to change before you get in.

If you would like to go to Yaowaraj or China Town, you can stop at Ratchawongse pier. A Chinese community which you can see a lot of restuarants on the both side of the road.

There's one interest temple nearby China Town, Wat Tri Mitre which is well known as the huge golden buddha place inside the chapel here. This golden buddha was recorded in Guinness Book of World Record in 1991 as the largest golden buddha.

Another one place for the foreigner is at Phra Arthit pier.

From this pier you can reach to Khao San Road, the famous place for a westerner and a lot of cheap guesthouse there.

For a shopping lover, you can stop at Wang Lang (Siriraj) pier. There's many shop in a small alley beside the Siriraj hospital. Also you can stop at Si Phraya pier, there's an antiques shop inside River City hotel. Alternatively you can get across the river by boat to Klong San Market.
